Coaching Skills

A training programme for Managers and Leaders

The face of leadership and management is changing.

An increasing emphasis on leaner organisational structures means everyone has to work smarter and be encouraged to problem-solve and think for themselves in new ways.

Gone are the days of just telling and directing.

The key to unlocking potential is to take a coaching approach

Description: Tony Burgess, Julie French and Sarah Armitage, Directors of Academy of High Achievers Ltd, Providers of Training for Trainers and Coaches

By 'coaching' I mean:

  • Helping people to think for themselves through great questioning, listening and feedback.
  • Focusing on real issues in real time, helping people to reflect, learn, develop and perform.

‘‘This has given me the confidence and tools to become a better coach’’

Tim Irons, Finance Business Partner

Every conversation at work is an opportunity for a new insight, a different perspective or a trigger to take action.

Imagine your Leaders and Managers having the skills to make the most of every conversation.

The skills to:

  • Ask the right questions and listen really effectively
  • To ‘pull out’ the potential in their people and colleagues
  • To help people to solve their own problems
  • To help people learn and develop on the job
  • To diffuse conflict
  • To develop their teams
  • To create more productivity for your organisation

So how can you give your Leaders and Managers these skills?

‘‘One of the best workshops I have attended. Relaxed but still controlled, with great mixture of presenting styles. All the information, group work etc. was relevant and useful’’

Helena Robinson, HR Officer

Our 'Coaching Skills for Managers' (or Leaders) programme is designed specifically with this in mind!

You will know that this programme has really delivered for your organisation, when your Leaders and Managers naturally and easily slip into a coaching approach and people in their teams respond positively to a different way of communicating. As a result, they feel empowered and give more of themselves at work.

How do we ensure these results with our programme?

  • Other training companies may confuse delegates with complex models and theories; We like to keep things practical, simple and fun. We focus on lots of practice and a ‘get in and drive’ approach. This reaps benefits as participants learn the skills quickly and benefit from real-time feedback and reflection.
  • Lasting benefits are evident when the coaching skills developed become ‘unconscious habits’. Habits are built over time, initially through conscious effort and practice. This programme builds in interventions to support getting to the ‘habit stage’. Peer support, periodic reviews and refreshers all contribute to creating a sustainable and measurable shift in behaviour and the embedding of a coaching style and approach to Leadership and/or Management.
  • Our philosophy of building skills whilst working on ‘real life’ issues has multiple benefits. Leaders and Managers grow themselves, grow their skills and build closer working relationships in the process.
  • We use a Training Programme Evaluation questionnaire throughout the programme to check progress and help to ensure the delivery is meeting your organisation's desired outcomes.
  • We draw on a wealth of expertise and experience in our delivery and for this programme incorporate approaches from the worlds of Executive Coaching, Emotional Intelligence and Neuro Linguistic Programming.
  • We also introduce Leaders and Managers to the DiSC® model – a powerful behavioural profiling tool. DiSC® helps people to understand their own communication style and behaviour so they can adapt it effectively to meet the different preferences, needs and motivations of the people that they lead and manage on a day-to-day basis.

‘‘Great course, great team exercises and great use of visuals and DVD. Well presented. Can't wait to get out there and practise my new skills!’’

Martin Murray, H&S Co-ordinator

I am one of the Directors of the Academy of High Achievers Ltd. Previously a Senior Manager and board member in the social and healthcare sector, I started my first training and coaching business over 11 years ago.

Coaching has been a passion of mine for many years! Whether it's assisting line managers to become more effective by taking a coaching approach or training professional coaches to get better results, I'm totally enthused about the coaching process.

Past and present clients include Siemens, South West Trains, Medtronic, Birmingham City Council and a number of Primary Care Trusts, to name but a few!

In addition to coaching and training with DiSC® behavioural profiling, I am an NLP Trainer, Executive Coach, Emotional Intelligence facilitator and keynote speaker.
